Who would have known what a rich and diverse history marijuana holds? It’s so often viewed as a drug solely meant for abuse when there are many positive attributes. With further exploration of marijuana, people may see it in a different light. In this case, the different light is CBD.
What and how was CBD discovered?
Have you ever wondered how a well-known drug like marijuana could be so popular? Marijuana is an herb that is ancient and as shocking as it may be, it has a rich history. Marijuana comes from a plant called Cannabis Sativa, and it is from here that CBD was discovered. You will be surprised when I tell you that even the great Queen Elizabeth used CBD for the alleviation of menstrual cramps.
CBD is basically medicated cannabis that dates back as far as 2737 BC. Believe it or not, as much as people portray it in a bad image, there are a lot of positive attributes. The evidence of its positivity was found by various scientists over the years; however, the explosion of CBD started with Charlotte Figi. She was an epileptic patient that led to the development of Charlotte’s web.
CBD was used to reduce the seizures of Charlotte’s epilepsy, and due to its success led to the development of the CBD industry and the Stanley brothers. The Stanley brothers broadened their operation to form Charlotte’s Web CBD. From then on, the movement towards medicated Cannabis took off. Unfortunately, Charlotte passed away due to Covid-19 but she left behind a legacy for CBD.
The extraction process
Now that you know the history of CBD, let me explain how CBD is derived from marijuana. CBD basically comes from a form of Cannabis sativa known as a Hemp plant.
It is extracted from the hemp plant through a carbon dioxide extraction system. Carbon dioxide is used as a solvent to extract the oil. The oil is further purified to remove traces of THC. The CBD extract is then mixed with a carrier oil. This, therefore, forms CBD oil that is used as a treatment.
